In 2009, Jean-Paul and Marie-Chantal Houde, brother and sister, decided to combine their strengths to start a project for a sheep’s milk and cheese making business while structuring and valorising the family farm. Jean-Paul has the skills and knowledge in animal farming, milking and land cultivation. Marie-Chantal’s passion is cheese making. She learned her trade in France and has years of practice in the field. May 29, 2010 mark the arrival of their very first cheese wheels: the Zacharie Cloutier. Since 2010, Fromagerie Nouvelle-France has won 18 prizes in different competitions, including the prize for the best cheese in Quebec in 2011 and in 2014 for the Zacharie Cloutier. Their mission is to make the best sheep’s milk fine cheeses so that they become the reference in Canada while generating profits to ensure the financial continuity of the farm, the promoters and the regional sheep’s milk farms. They also want to contribute to the outreach of the community, the region and the province. The main objective is to create economic, social and environmental wealth for the entire region.
